Extracurricular Activities

Holy Cross encourages students to be involved in activities outside of the classroom to enhance their knowledge.  In addition to sports and fine arts, opportunities abound for students to collaborate and work with others who have similar interests.

Scouting Programs

Holy Cross has a long and active affiliation with scouting programs, ranging from Daisy and Cub Scouts to Cadette and BSA troops for boys and girls.

Challenger Learning Center - Lunar Quest and Expedition to Mars

Teams of middle school students participate in a simulated adventure, taking on the roles of communication, space weather, life support, robotics, remotely operated vehicle, or medical officer, biologist, geologist, or navigation specialist. Students maintain the safety of the crew while collecting data in order to build, test, and program a rover.

On the fortieth anniversary of the Space Shuttle Challenger tragedy, our Holy Cross sixth and seventh graders experienced an unforgettable day at the Challenger Learning Center in Normal.

Our seventh graders took on a Mars mission, working together to design and build a rover capable of exploring the Martian surface in search of signs of water and the possibility that life may have once existed there. Meanwhile, our sixth graders embarked on a Lunar Quest, tasked with locating a lava tube on the Moon as a potential site for a future human habitat designed for long-term living.

Through teamwork, problem-solving, and innovation, both crews rose to the challenge. Just like real space missions, their top priority was astronaut safety, and we are proud to report that every mission was a success!
